It Wouldn’t Be a Home Without Our Pets
When people think about full-time RV living, they usually picture mountain views, campfires, and waking up in a new place every few weeks. What they don’t always picture are the four paws that make our tiny home feel complete.
Before we ever moved into our RV, there was never a question of whether our pets would come with us. They’re family, and wherever we go, they go too.
Our crew consists of Jaxon, our Australian Shepherd, and our two cats, Zora and Onyx. They’re all completely different, and each one has found their own way of adapting to life on the road.
Jaxon has embraced this lifestyle from day one. Every new campground means new smells, new trails, and another adventure waiting just outside the door. Whether we’re hiking through wildflower-filled meadows, walking beneath towering pines, or relaxing by the campsite after a long day, he’s always ready to be right there with us.
Then there are Onyx and Zora. Most people are surprised when they hear we travel with two indoor cats, but they’ve adapted better than we ever imagined. The RV is their safe place, and every time we park somewhere new, they have a fresh view out the windows. Birds, squirrels, deer, and bugs.
Living in a small space definitely comes with challenges. We have to be intentional about where everything goes, make room for litter boxes, pet food, toys, and beds, and make sure everyone has a place where they feel comfortable.
Travel days require a little extra planning, and we’re always mindful of temperatures and making sure they’re safe. But the rewards far outweigh the inconveniences.
One of the greatest gifts of this lifestyle is simply getting to spend more time together. Instead of leaving home for work all day, we’re sharing everyday life with them. Morning coffee outside the RV, evening walks, rainy afternoons, and peaceful nights at camp, they’re here for all of it.
They’ve traveled with us through deserts, forests, mountains, and wetlands. They’ve watched the seasons change from places we never imagined we’d call home. While every destination is beautiful in its own way, what makes each place special is experiencing it together.
People often ask if living in an RV really feels like home. The truth is, home has never been about square footage or having a permanent address. It’s about the people and the pets you share life with.
Whether Jaxon is waiting by the door, Zora is curled up for an afternoon nap, or Onyx is watching wildlife from the window, they remind us every day that home isn’t a place. Home is being together. And for us, it simply wouldn’t be a home without our pets.
